PROJECT PURPOSE

Oklahoma?s nonprofit sector is a major economic and social multiplier for the state ? generating large amounts of revenue, employing tens of thousands of Oklahomans, and partnering with key leaders with the sole purpose of positively impacting communities. Nonprofits exist to serve communities and as such, were uniquely impacted by conditions brought about by the pandemic. The sector as a whole is resilient out of necessity. When nonprofits cease to operate, citizens do not have access to their critical programs. To alleviate the effects the pandemic inflicted on Oklahoma communities, OKCNP proposes an approach that will provide relief to the sector and ensure it continues to grow and thrive. The transformational strategy would utilize American Rescue Plan Act dollars to: 1. Establish a state-of-the-art nonprofit research and education center (in partnership with local philanthropic leaders) headquartered in Oklahoma City?s Innovation District dedicated to transforming Oklahoma?s rich nonprofit sector into one of the greatest and innovative in the nation. 2. Infuse dollars directly into Oklahoma?s nonprofit sector to alleviate the effects of COVID, enable nonprofits to serve the ongoing needs of Oklahoma communities, and propel our sector forward through a partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.

EVIDENCE

In May 2021, OKCNP surveyed its members on the impact the COVID-19 Pandemic has had on revenue and program delivery. 70% of nonprofits under $5,000,000 in Revenue reported an estimated loss of revenue; on average, that loss was $40,505 to $62,500 per organization. There are 3,409 registered 501(c)(3) Public Charities with income below $5,000,000 as of June 2021 - bringing the estimated loss to the sector to $96.6-$149.2 million (approximately 7-10% of total sector revenue). *

POPULATION DESCRIPTION

The deceptively simple term ?nonprofit? encompasses a service range that impacts every single Oklahoman. Nonprofit organizations are embedded in the heart of our communities and work tirelessly to improve the lives of Oklahomans. Not only do nonprofits educate citizens of all ages, assist the elderly and sick, respond to natural disasters, provide food and assistance to families in need, inspire with art, enhance our cities with beautification efforts, research and cure disease, and save endangered animal species; the nonprofit sector is also a sophisticated major economic force for our state. Fast Facts ? OKCNP COVID Impact Survey Report: ? 66% of respondents projected a loss of revenue ? 39% experienced lower-than-expected funding for budgeted grants ? 58% had an increase in demand for their services (77% in Health and Human Services) ? 64% said COVID had a negative impact on their ability to respond to the increased demand
